Partnership Model: Shoes for Orphan Souls® Shoe Drive
Shoes for Orphan Souls®, the largest humanitarian aid project of Buckner International, provides new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and throughout the world. From conducting shoe drives to humanitarian aid trips, Buckner offers hands-on opportunities to individuals, groups and organizations wanting to transform lives. Since 1999, more than 2.3 million pairs of new shoes have been distributed to children in 74 countries, including the United States.
For many children around the world, shoes are a constant and urgent need. New shoes improve the health of a child and prevent them from contracting preventable diseases. They also provide opportunity for education, since most schools around the world require children to wear shoes. And lastly, new shoes provide hope. Children in most orphanages share everything and do not own a single possession. When you provide a new pair of shoes, it communicates love and helps a child know they are not forgotten.
What Local Host Does: Host a Shoe Drive
Hosting a shoe drive is a fun, easy way to make a significant difference in the lives of children around the world. Shoe drive hosts engage their local church, business or organization to collect shoes. When a host registers their shoe drive, Buckner provides promotional materials to make their shoe drive a success. After the shoes or socks are collected, all items should be delivered or shipped back to the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Mesquite, Texas.
What Organizational Partner Does:
The Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Dallas, Texas, packs and ships shoes, socks, medical supplies, and other humanitarian aid to Buckner-affiliated Community Transformation Centers and network partners around the world. These centers work with families and children in need to transform the poorest communities one life at a time.
